The Meter is Running

Wintrip Consulting Group : Take No PrisonersTake No Prisoners is a free weekly memo from Scott Wintrip that explores how Radical Accountability prospers companies and changes lives. Instead of taking people hostage with outdated, heavy-handed, and ineffective methods of management, measurement, and motivation, Radical Accountability focuses on creating an unwavering responsibility for getting what matters most done.

The meter kept accumulating my debt with each passing moment in Las Vegas this past weekend; I chose each destination and paid each time. I’m referring to the taxis I rode in to and from some wonderful dinners and experiences with Holly, my wife. However, this was not the only meter that was running. There was only so much time to do a few things well, so it behooved us to choose wisely.

Every choice and every goal, be they large or small, exacts a fare from each and every one of us. The journey to get to these desired destinations in life costs us a variety of currencies: time, money, and focus, just to name a few. We only have so much of these resources to spend, which is especially true of time.

I observe way too many people making choices and electing goals they later regret. If only they had taken the time to carefully think through the investment their choice was going to cost them.

This Week’s Radical Accountability Activating Action: Pause and ask yourself if each important choice and every goal is worth what it’s going to cost you in tangible and intangible resources.
